As a species, we seem to be very interested in why something happens, and that sort of curiosity has brought mankind a long way. The endless why is what powers today’s news outlets, social networking sites, and backyard over-the-fence conversations – not to mention the great strides in technology, and the ongoing unraveling of mysteries which have stumped us for as long we can remember. Some time in the mid 60′s … in a small town in southern Maine.
A young woman stands in the middle of a road, eyes raised skyward, squinting against the fast falling, heavy snowflakes. The only sound is an almost rhythmic susurration of wind through the frozen branches of the naked trees nearby, and the street lights reveal an unbroken carpet of brilliant, sparkling white.
